Print Chat: Wavy Stripe!
It is no secret that I love stripes- that we all love stripes at KAD! Stripes are a timeless classic- they're easy to wear and very fun to style. This wavy stripe is hand-drawn by me, then carved by hand into a block and printed by hand as well! I truly just cannot get enough of geometrics rendered organically - so perfectly imperfect! I studied drawing and painting at art school (alongside photography and TEXTILES of course) and we always talked about the quality of lines... and I still think about lines and their idiosyncracies :) I love a hand-drawn wobbly, thin-thick line and when it's a living line, ie on a fabric, worn on a body- BE STILL MY ART LOVIN HEART! It's just good times. Some of my inspo for this wavy line stripe....
Andy Warhol's pen and ink lines... so simple and expressive!
Also Felix Vallotton, love his paintings and especially these black and white prints...
I grew up with a reproduction of this print, La Paresse, on my wall - it's deep in my psyche now-- it definitely fed my love of pattern on pattern, of course. Also cats! Also nudity! Also napping! Love this print so much.
I have spent many hours and days- weeks!- wandering on beautiful deep-grooved granite of the Canadian Shield and when you're looking for expressive, perfectly imperfect lines you can never go wrong there- the striations created many millenia ago by rocks being dragged across bedrock by slow moving glaciers- these are some GORGEOUS lines!
Every two minutes you're walking into the most wonderful drawing. And dont get me started about the little pools and mosses too- ARGH I LOVE THE BEDROCK!!! This is from Polly's Cove in NS and please, if you can go, get on over there and walk for days on these beautiful rocks and enjoy the crashing waves and silvery atlantic below while you're at it. One of my top 10 walking spots in the world! And INFINITELY inspiring in the line department!!!!
